The
Bleriot XI made its debut at the Paris Salon de l'Automobileet
de I' Aeronautique in December 1908 along with the type IX and
X but the latter models never flew. But the third plane was another
story. The type IX made it's first flight at Issy in January 23
1909 and was clearly an efficient if still not perfect aircraft.
After some development and fitting a 3 cylinder Anzio engine and
a 2 blade propeller the modified IX gave excellent performance.
This aircraft was the first to cross the English Channel Flown
by Louis Bleriot on July 25 1909.
