When building wheels, I like to use long strips of
paper to act as a filler. I used to cut these by hand (steel straight-edge
and x-acto). I happened to stumble upon my shredder. It cuts paper
into 1/4" strips. At work, we've a shredder that cuts 1/16'
strips. Just shove in one long sheet and, viola, a whole bag of
stripped paper. Of course, if the size I need isn't 1/4"
or 1/16" I'm still reduced to hand cutting. Hey, nothin's
perfect.
When I'm punching holes (mostly for rigging), if I
can catch myself early penough during the build, I back up the
paper with an old wine cork (sure is fun gettin' th' corks; course
a person's gotta only do one hobby at a time...wine and sharp
instruments don't mix well). Keeps the hole "fairly"
neat. Wayne White
