Well, I've found myself doing some work on the Dark Side for a group of WWII miniatures wargamers, doing "to order" builds on 1/700-scale aircraft.
Problem is, paint jobs.
1. Did any SB2U Vindicators or TBD Devastators in combat units last long enough to receive the Sea Blue-top 3-tone scheme, or were they dumped while still in the 2-tone era?
2. Did any F4F/FM Wildcats make it to the 3-tone 607 Sea Blue/608 Int. Blue/601 White scheme, or did they move from M485-over-602 straight into the 2-tone gray or 3-tone gray-over-white ASW schemes?
On the numbers: M485 is an old prewar Navy paint color, all the others are color codes from the Army-Navy Aviation (ANA) series long ago superseded by the current FS system.
Thanks!
