I needed some decent barrels for the deck cargo of a riverboat I’m building (the kit’s barrels were very slapdash twin cones stuck together), so I got some images of real lumber and real iron plate and very meticulously pieced up pieces for barrels that look like barrels – and the results were good enough I thought I’d post them here, in two sizes, so if you need deck cargo or beer truck cargo or field workbench support barrels or planter half barrels or whatever you might want a good looking barrel for, here they are. There are two shades of wood (light or dark) and two shades of metal hoop (light or dark) to make four possible barrels. The glue strips are not notched because they should be feather cut (you can notch them if you prefer but feather cutting is faster and smoother). It's best to precurl both the barrel side and the glue strip before gluing them together, to prevent wrinkles. The tops and bottoms should also be glued to stiffening cardboard.

Enjoy --- !

those would be good for Prairie Schooners as well! shrink em down to. You might even be able to use em on an O scale RR layout, or as cargo.

Here're a couple of built up barrels, for size reference next to a 1/8 scale model of a Mitsubishi F1M Pete (that's left its center float back on the ship's catapult).

OK, just kidding about the Pete - it's actually 1/700 scale, but I didn't want to get Lep over-excited about another microscopic airplane. The Pete is plastic, by the way, not paper, from the Waterline series IJN light cruiser Nagara.
