Guys, I'm having an extreme crisis of confidence at the moment regarding my card modelling. Nothing I've tried to build since I finished my Gloster E.28/39 a few weeks ago has gone very well at all, in fact of the four or five models I've attempted I've finished precisely none of them. I've just come across insurmountable problems with the fit of parts, and I'm afraid to say that one of these was a FG model. I really need to finish something soon, otherwise I don't know what I'll do!

Keep pluggin Chris. You'll get there. I went through a spell like that a while back. I suggest something nice like the Cessna 172 or something.

Chris,
Yes. Do something different. Perhaps a nice hanger to go with one of your aircraft. We all have these "thumb-finger" attacks.
Best,
Tom
P.S. Is Awe actually a town in England? I thought that the Southern U.S. had the odd names franchise all sewn up.

Bummer Chris! I hate when that happens to me, and it has happened to all of us at one time or another. Just hang in there and something will catch your eye and your passion and suddenly it will be just like old times as one thing leads to another and you have one completed.

I can't comment really, because most of the models I've built recently started off like this:

And after several weeks of fighting end up like this:

Thanks for the encouragement chaps, it's made me feel a lot happier :D. I was also glad to know that I'm not the only one it's happened to! I think I'm gonna have a go at the SE5a (again) next. It was only the second ever card model I made, and will be the first one I've made twice - the original having been destroyed by the cat a while ago. At least I know I can build this model!

Don't feel too bad--I've never even finished one, in about twenty years of trying. (Yep, started back in the printed-postcard days...lol) *Unintelligible* shaky hands... I think the only reason I shoot steady is having a two-pound hunk o' metal (approx weight of a loaded M1911A1 .45) in hand makes a decent stabilizer due to its weight.

Hang in there, Chris! All I can say is, take it one piece at a time, put all your attention into getting that single piece right, then on to the next and repeat.
Slow and steady...

It's burn out, we all go through it. For easily the last 5 months of 2008 and the first 3 of this year, I built maybe one model. It happens. Take a break from building, do something else.

I'm pretty burned out myself right now. I got about 2/3 of the way through a DeHavilan Chipmonk but just could not finish it. Then I printed out and started cutting parts for an F-11F but lost interest. Then I printed out the Gloster Gladiator form that same kool free site (keep your eyes on it, he's coming up with a B-26 soon!) but couldnt bring myself to even start it.

Finally I decided to try building the an old fav. of mine, the FG Brewster Buffalo. I wanted to do the Aussie version. but then after I had printed it and started building, I found the markings on the sides were wrong. The fellow who did the repaint had "mirror-imaged" the sides so that initialy it looked great, but after I had put the fusalage together I realized one side had the numbers and letters backwards! Doh!!! Well, that spoiled that project for me.

But i did like the Buffalo; always have. So I thought I might try to re-draw it. Some of those lines are horribly thick and Really jagged and "Pixilly" if you know what I mean. I'm not good enough to do any actual re-designing, but I figure I should be able to trace over the original parts in photoshop so the lines are better scaled.

How far I get on That particular project is anybodies guess...

It's summer: take a break--get outside, enjoy the rest of the world. Save the paper and glue for later. We all get feeling the same way (if you don't--you might be seriously deranged) and need fresh challenges.

I've pretty well stopped card modeling because I've got bigger and more challenging projects now. (I'm building an SBD engine cowling--I've got about 1/3 of the original in usable condition--the rest I'm making from scratch, using factory drawings, old bent and corroded parts as patterns, and my imagination. Also have a couple of neat projects in my shop) I still get the urge to card model--but never get mcuh further than looking through my collection. Nothing wrong with that--a lot of the people who buy Chip's collections seldom build anything--they just enjoy the art, and the designer's ingenuity. I've probably built more models in my mind than on my desk...and it's just as jun.

Hey you too CD.

But I suspect Rob has the right answer. Time to focus my obsessive-compulsive disorder on another hobby for a bit!

Gee possm, would that include moving the rest of the family to the back bedroom and turning the rest of the house into your paper model workshop and display area?
