I dunno. I've had training in Autocad, which Rhino is very similar too. I can't figure any of the other designing programs out that people use.

I tried using pepakura once, but gave up after I couldn't even make the box in the tutorial. Same with Sketchup.

Have you tried Blender Murph? I hear its great for designing. I have it, but I haven't had an opportunity to play with it.

I know Chris Gutzmer at ecardmodels put together a simple tutorial for basic shapes. And, there are a ton of ones online. It may make it so you don't have to redraw everything if you do it in Blender first. Plus, it has a tool that will unfold designs for paper models.

It does????? if it does, it must be some sort of plug-in, 'cause the standard UV unwrap isn't worth a hoot as far as paper modeling goes

We're here speaking of very different things: Rhino is a NURBS modeler and I've to say is the best I've ever seen to design paper models.

The possibility to develop a model with "surfaces" suits very well the development of a paper model. Rhino has the possibility to "unroll" the surface too, so basically it's ideal to paper models. You don't need pepakura just Rhino and a vector graphics editor like CorelDraw.

Blender is a very powerful tool but their NURBS tools are primitive and very limited. You can of course to model in Blender but it's very different approach. You have to use the subdivision modeler on Blender to do that.

Here's it's a good example of that

The page is about the development of a model with free tools. There is information about blender and a plug-in to unroll the surfaces.

The sad news is the detailed information are in threads from in German :( but with a translator you can get the idea.
