I already posted this info over on the Paper-Modelers forum, so you may have already seen this, but-

This has been something I have been working on, on and off (mostly off), for many months. I finally got around to actually getting a test printing put together over the holidays. The markings still need adjusting, but the overall look is pretty good, IMHO. Now the question is - how much detail do I want to add? I could add in the air brakes in an open position. Maybe a very simple seat and cabin would work too. And the landing gear could use a bit more detail. And...and....

So purty! I like the manned missile Tim. I wish the museum here had one.

Tim you did an outstanding job on your Starfighter. I really like the line detail through out the aircraft skin and the weathering is perfect. Can I ask how you got it to come out like that? It looks more like metal skin instead of paper. That is a very sharp build. Well done. wc

Well...all it takes is Years of messing about in Photoshop.

Actually it was staring long and hard at other peoples models that had a metallic look (like the Fiddlers Green P-51) , and wondering how I could make the same sort of thing in Photohsop that did it. I eventually created a Photoshop layer that has a gray metallic gradient over top of a texture/pattern of interlocking, different shaded boxes and rectangles that I found on the internet, as part of a SciFi spaceship! Lots of trail and error later and here we are.

I was planning on getting back to this tonight, but my printer is out of ink. I should be able to get the next version done by the weekend.

I could send you the layer, if you use photoshop and think you can make use of it.

Thank you Tim for your offer and yes I do have Photos Shop but even with the program I wouldn't have a clue what to do to get that same effect. I was thinking of how great the skin would look on a F-86. It would make it very hot. Thanks for you offer and help. wc

Looking good, Tim. Great technique. It's starting to look real.

Thanks.

I actually did try it on the F-86, but due to the fact that the 86 is an older model with very thick panel lines, it just didnt look right. Also, the metal pattern looks best on a larger model, and the 86 is pretty small. It looks pretty good on the F-100, though. I just did a quick re-skinning of the ANG F-100 in the versions folder. I wont have time myself to try building it, at least not for awhile. If anyone else would like to give it a go, just ask. :D

That F-100 looks so neat. I wish I had time to build it myself. I'm stuck halfway on a build already.
