Doing a test build of the green/brown P-39 in RAF scheme. AH621 was the lone P-39 taken into the RCAF for evaluation.

John

Looks really good. I take it that this is a total repaint, you did a great job. I really like the wheel well treatment.

Thanks Beard. It is a repaint of the Wahl-Eye II green-brown version in the P-39 package. Appreciate your comments and any other hints people have before I call the kit done.

Regards,
John

I like that you lightened the panel lines on the fuselage to match those on the wings. They really shouldn't be too visible, the only thing that should show up as a hard line is of course the inspection plates and control surfaces. You handled that very nicely.

Are you going to make the landing gear tubes or leave them flat?

Thanks Beard. I am trying to not make too many changes to the kit, but I usually insert some wire between the folded gear legs to round them out a bit. I also like to make my tyres in layers of cardboard with the edges rounded a bit. I will see if I can get the rest of the pieces on by this weekend.

Regards,
John

I bury floral wire (the green painted stuff that takes glue and marker colouring) to give a rounded shape and more strength. The main gear tyres are also glued to the landing gear covers to take most of the load.

This is a great looking re-paint. I like to coloration much better for some reason. I hope this will be posted for D/L and that any special notes passed along too. I just might get off my lazy butt and do something. Thank you for taking the time. Outstanding work. Thank you. wc

Thanks Wad Cutter. Just to clarify, the very nice brown-green scheme is already in the P-39 package. I have only changed it from US markings to RAF markings and have revised and added a few parts. For the nose gear, I have added the strut scissor (torque link) to the kit. Now to get it sitting on its gear.

Regards,
John

The upgraded gear will make a lot of difference in the looks of the finished model.

Nice work on the gear. I usually do the same thing with bits of straightened paper clips

Thanks willygoat. Test build done - a few adjustments made to the repaint. It was a fun build. Compliments to the original designer.

That came together really well. Nice job! I really need to build this one. I've had it in my mind to print and build it numerous times, but something always catches my fancy.

Thanks for sharing your build with us!

The landing gear definitely makes it first class. Nice job overall.
