Greetings Aviators and Aviatrixes,
I’m new to this forum and the Aviation Card craft making my first purchase of Fiddler Green aircraft, the Pawnee glider tug, and the Bowlus Baby Albatross sailplane last Saturday.

Being out and about Sunday, and pulling at the bit, I stopped by OfficeMax to check on paper and printers ( I do have an aged HP1220C Inkjet which has a rear manual feed for an almost straight through path for the paper but have had difficultly feeding heavy weight papers; jams, etc.) when I decided to talk to their printing department. After a discussion with one of their techs, who was very helpful, I returned home, downloaded my FG folders, burned a CD, and returned to Office Max for them to print the files I selected. For those of you that don’t have a printer or one that will hack the heavier weight papers don’t let this keep you from trying card modeling. Your prints maybe a little more expensive than if you have your own setup but when you consider the cost of a quality Inkjet and the expense of replacing cartridges I’m not so sure that’s true.

The Inkjet printer they used was an industrial strength Xerox Inkjet and I was very pleased with the color quality and sharpness of detail of the prints. They would have furnished the paper except they were out of single sheets of white #67 paper but had #80 and #110 but I thought the #110 might be too heavy. I purchased some packaged Wausau Paper brand #65 Premium Card Stock and had them use that. There were some packages of semi-smooth #67 but it didn’t appear as hard as the smooth #65. As you can see I’m feeling my way and hoping I’m in the ball park with my beginner’s selection. On the way home I began to wonder how well the paper would take glue. When I arrived I asked my wife what she uses for paper glue and she gave me two bottles of Aleene’s original Tacky Glue and one of Quick Dry Tacky Glue. Both made a good bond. If I remember correctly when reading through some of Chip’s material he mentioned Aleene’s as a possible choice. (I also have a tube of “UHU sticâ€

I apologize for my mistake that the printer they used at OfficeMax was a Xerox Inkjet. It was in fact a Xerox Color Laser. Sorry about that. :(

It's not a problem! We all make mistakes and besides, in this hobby, you can just print a new one and start over ;)

Welcome aboard, Ragwing!

Some one needs to warn you, though, about addictions!

And don't dare look at the Micromark or Widget Supply websites!!! You'll find tools that you can't live without for every possible need for card modeling!

Bob

I'm not addicted to card modelling, I just don't want to stop. Besides I like the smell of Tacky glue.
