Whew,

All the struts are in place!!!!!! To be basically simple, this was a booger to build.

Tips:

The v-strut under the engine and the bracing struts between the rudder and elevator are not included, so don't waste your time looking for them! They are not hard to make, so no problem.

Google "Sikorsky S-39" before starting and really spend some time figuring out the strut configuration, especially where they attach to the fuselage. Look at (and print) lots and lots of photos. One good source of pix is http://www.safarimuseum.com/. By the way, the width at the top of the fuselage-to-wing N-struts is the distance between the tail booms.

You will find your ulcers are less likely to flair up if you use Duco or Testors Glue for Wood Models (or something similar) to stick the booms in place --- with white glue, you are doomed to weeks of holding struts in place until the glue dries.

Study the tail booms for the S-38 and modify those on the S-39 the same way.

Above all don't get in a rush!!!!!

Howzit

A nice clean and good looking model Bob. Another tip, use gap-filling/gel super glue to glue the struts, it's what I use on all my models for finicky jobs.

Wow! that looks great. My current level of patience is keeping me form attempting the struts but it looks like you did a very nice job :D

That looks super. The Sikorsky's take time, but on the S-38 it is satisfying to watch it come together, your 39 is great, I have yet to build one, no time yet

Mr bear, have you considered trying the S-38? I would be interested in what you think...

The S-38 looks good on paper and in the FG photos. Two fiddly rotary engines and lots more struts. After the struggle with her smaller sister, I have decided to do something simple, like the PT-16! Low wing and no struts at all!

With my sentimental attachment to the Sikorski's of Osa and Martin Johnson,
I'll get to the Zebra one of these days.

And it isn't necessary to call me "Mr. Bear". When I retired, I dropped all those formalities! Just call me:

Bob
