Since I own a Prius this offering from Toyota had a special appeal. It’d been languishing in my To Do folder for two years – thought it about time to do something with it. The license plate is of course a photograph of my license plate, and the color is my color. Not a model for beginners, especially since the instructions are in Japanese. Several intricately curved interlocking pieces to form the nose and hatchback. Could not have done it without my heavy duty sculpted Craftsman 3/8â€

Very nice looking build, airport kid. Those curved surfaces are really very well done. Feathering the tabs for a smoother look was a very innovative approach. Did you feather the tabs only, or the overlaying paper as well?

Thanks for all the admiring comments, all!

I only feathercut the tabs, and the exterior surfaces burnished out without wrinkling (it's a small model, only about 5-3/4" long).

There were also a few pieces where I left a margin for additional tabbing (also feathercut) to avoid gaps.

It's interesting that these finished models often look better as photographs than they do "in the flesh": e.g. the headlights in the photos of the model actually look like they're "clear" whereas of course they're just printed that way and look it when looking at the actual model. Do you suppose my Photoshopping out the glue smudges and tab gaps and other gaffes might influence that illusion as well? (Just kidding).

Nice work! Is there a detailed interior with a miniature airportkid sitting at the wheel too?!

Airportkid, just a privacy note: it might be a good idea to "smudge out" the plate number in Photoshop--you'd be surprised what you can find about somebody with just a plate.
