I couldn't resist this. The whole idea of the plane is just silly, after all that designing to still one have a top speed of 81 mph and then make it difficult to get into to boot. I'll hang this one at my shop for the conversation generation. Anyhoo, it isn't a difficult build but the new nose ring that was added puts the engine a long way from the prop (I just used a long wire, doubt it would pass the FAA inspection).

The barrel came out very well. I too always thought that it was a goofy looking plane.

Caproni Stipa is a very strange weird bird. Very good build.

One of these days I'm gonna learn to leave well enough alone. I decided I needed to build a Grumman Goose, but I didn't like the look of the windows. To flat I thought, hmmmm what can I do about that? Well this is what I came up with.

Image

What I did was cut the windows out, duh, then I glued some transparency film over the back (did you know you can wash the coarse finish that takes the ink of with water?). Then I colored some bond paper with a Sharpie and glued that over the whole works. I found the easiest way of gluing to transparencies is glue sticks.

Next I put some radial engines on from the Sirus ( adding some wire for push rods). I also used a modified propellers from a Marek P26.

Well in for a penny in for a pound..... I reprinted the nacelles without the exhaust and mufflers and made some new ones, I also used slits for the vents on the nacelles. Then I figured what the heck and played with the landing gear, this I made way to heavy and it isn't correct, but its only a model. I also made the tail gear 3d and added landing gear doors for that.

Almost forgot, I put on the guy wires for the pontoons.

Here is something a little different. This is a Travel Air Mystery Ship build at 1/48, again I used the radial engine and a different prop, the rest is stock. The windscreen is made from transparency film.

This was a pretty easy build, everything fit nicely and I was particularly pleased with the way the wing fit, though I did have to color in the dihedral plate.

Your Travel Air Mystery is stunning. As always extremely clean and the removal engine cover is really nice. You can really show off the rotary engine detail. This is a winner. Thank you for sharing. Super good job. Always a winner. wc

What a beauty! I've always like the Mystery Ship, and you've done an amazing job. Did you say that the engine is from the Sirius? I'll have to dig for that one.

Great job!

Thanks guys. Yep the engine is from the Sirius, but the same engine is on the Lockheed Explorer and one of the helicopters. That is my go to 9 cylinder radial, the tops of the jugs leave a little to be desired but they are usually covered by a cowling. I'm building a trimotor now and am interested in Aaron's 9 cylinder, which may be my new go to radial
