Based on what little I can find, this was a picture of a mock-up.

It never actualy flew and thus, perhaps, does not really belong here.

Interesting story. Dr. Lippish(sp?) was trying to create a VTOL aircraft. His concept took a big engine and added flaps at the back to direct the exaust downward when taking off and landing, and to swivel back when in level flight.

This mock-up was for a remote controlled experimental aircraft (thats why you cant see any cockpit; there isnt one).

His experiments never got very far, but today we can see his key concept in the only successful VTOL aircraft in production- the AV8B Harrier.
