These would be the blue struts of the landing gear wheeles/tires are glued to.Thees struts are glued to the fuselage underneath the bottom wing. For some reason I can't get it to fold and/or bend over it's stealth. I have tried it a few different ways and it comes out wrong. I didn't have this problem with my Duck. I really don't know where I am going wrong. After this it's almost done and can't wait to start the all yellow for the Navy version. They will look great side by side wc

If you look at my picks earlier in the thread, I rolled the struts around a toothpick. I also ran a length of wire through the struts on both sides and through the fuselage to keep them lined up. I then left a little bit of wire at the ends of the struts to connect to the wheels.

Hi Coach, I just went looking for your item on the struts and I couldn't find it or any thing about your Stearman. Did I miss understand???? Totally lost....
I'll keep trying to roll/fold/bend them into the shape that looks like one of the photos I saw.

Page 4 has a shot of the struts from the side where you can see the roll around the tooth pick. I'll see if I can get a couple more shots at work tomorrow.

This is one of the sets I have so far. I'm not sure if I have it or not.

I can't see what pics you put on because the school network blocked them. I meant this one.

That looks great John! Way better than mine by far. If you run some wire along the leading edge on the inside from one, through the fuselage where they line up, and out and through the other, they should be pretty strong.

Thats good advice. I didn't put any wire on mine, and after several years on display, the landing gear on my Stearman collapsed.

I built my Stearman 7 years ago, and after that amount of time, and falling from the ceiling 5 times (hanging up in my classroom), the landing gear are still holding up strong.

A long time ago I met and became friends with a person who took the time to show an old fart like me that it was possible to turn paper into a airplane. He’s always there with hints rather then answers all my model questions. He’s my mentor, Willygoat. This Stearman PT. 17 wouldn’t have been possible with him and Jr’s tires and my doctor who also along with her support has helped me in so many different ways. Thanks Doctor Anne. I will start on her sister ship the Navy version next. wc

Thank you Willy, this model would never have been possible without you. Your help of course but a lot more then that. I know your always there. Knowing I'm not alone of these projects is a major help. Also knowing there are so many other modelers out there always ready to help and always ready to lend a kind word. Thank you Coach for being you. Your students are the real lucky ones. I hope they know this. Next up is the Navy version all yellow. A matching pair. I have already printed out the model. I was going to print it out on yellow paper but the white paper shows off the colors better. I did do a test print.
Again, I want to thank all who put there time in on helping me but of course manly Willygoat. A great friend and a great teacher. Thank you Coach. wc
