I need info on perhaps a mistake on my interpretation of the landing gear. It is so simple, but is somewhat confusing to me what is the right way to construct the landing gear.

Question 1. Shouldn't the struts for the landing gear by a metal color and not the reddish orange, which is the same as the body? Did I roll the struts around my dowel the wrong way? I took the white/silver part of the strut to be the oleo which will be next to the wheel. You can see on picture #1 what I did and how it relates to the wheels.

Question 2. The strut for the nose wheel indicates that is shorter than the other two. If I leave it as it is, it will allow the plane to sit at an angle and not level which is shown on many pictures of the Skystreak. Is this correct or will I have to insert the struts more up into the body to compensate for the short nose strut? Picture #2 shows the difference in the struts, before I cut them out.

Picture #1 also shows the nose strut to be thicker than the other two struts.

Help!

Just a guess Caddmann, but it looks to me like you rolled the strut the wrong way. On other makers models, when you see this sort of thing the white part is hidden, ie; you roll it first and then the burnt orange around it. That assures that the roll is the correct size. It could be that white is just the section that will take the glue, you will need to roll one up and see if it fits the top of the wheel carriage.

I think you both are right. So I will roll another set of struts and see how that looks. Still it bothers me to see the color of the strut and the wheel carriage as the same color of the body. I will survive though, but will still attempt to verify if at any time the struts were that color.

Thanks for the impute Burning Beard and Willygoat.

I found this old photo and it appears as though the gear struts were the same color. At least you can see it on the nose gear anyway.

Oh WOW! Thanks Willygoat! That picture is worth a thousand words. I think it is safe to assume if the nose gear is orange so shall the main gear be orange too. I now can sleep again at nights. LOL! I will proceed knowing that My fellow FG modelers have my back when in time of need.

Even in the previous picture, the m/l/g look white. I found this picture which gives a clear view
of the m/l/g, and they are white.

That's a good shot Ray. Makes you wonder why they would do them different colors. I'd have to guess that the main gear were taken from another plane to save time/money.
