On the right hand wing print out there is a wind spare I think you call it. There is only one. I was wondering if any one knew what it is used for. It is at the bottom of the page. Thank you. waddy

That's a scale diagram of a real airplane's wing rib, just as a reference for forming the wing's airfoil shape. It's not intended as a model part. HOWEVER, if you duplicate it about 6 times, glue it to thin cardboard (cereal box cardboard, proper name "chipboard"), they can be glued to the bottom inner surface of the wing (3 per side, 1 at the root), and the upper surface glued down on top of them to force the wing to the authentic airfoil shape. (If you're really ambitious you can make as many of these ribs as there are in the real airplane, so that the "ridges" of the ribs showing through the wing surfaces will coincide with their printed lines, further improving the authentic look of the wings).

Without the ribs, the lower surface of the wing takes on a bit of curvature that is absent on the real airplane - the Cub's airfoil is one of the few whose undersurface is truly flat, just like in the textbooks.

This rib shown is the correct on to be used then for this wing? I can fold the wing to produce the air foil. It's just that when I look at it, it seems to me that this rib shown is to big to be correct. Thanks airportkid.

I checked and you're right, that rib as shown must be reduced to 86.5% of its size (or to 2-11/16" long) to match the wing as printed. That allows for the leading edge curvature.

Thanks airport. Another something I have to lean about. I just don't have that kind of brain power. Today I will rebuild the fuselage and the cabin area with seats and etc. That's about all my head can handle. Thank you for the info. I'll tuck it away for future reference. When I rebuild the wings I think I will insert the spares. Is it easy to reverse the image I wonder? I would like to have one for each end of the wing that can be seen. Thanks you for your help. wad

Good news. I found a way using Photo shop to remove that one part from the whole page and reverse it.Next this is the scale problem but that will have to wait. I'm behind on my build now. All the same, thank you airportkid. wad
