I usually feel like that just before I start on a model.

Then I feel 64 by the time I'm half finished.

Then I"m back to 10 once its done. Look Mom! LookwhatIbuilt!

That's why I think the 'Look What I Built!' forum is so appropriately named!

There are certain FG models that I just can't build properly, the Duck is one of them and pretty much any WW2 aircraft, fairings and wing fuselage interfaces make me feel 5 years old, just can't nail them, as a result I go back to the "easier-to-build" planes.

Why do you think I build and design helicopters? No wings or wing fairings.

Hey, Niki,

One reason you have so much trouble with the wing/fuselage fairings (aka fillets) is that in the quest for simplicity, the fairings are part of the body or of the wings. Trimming the body so that it fits the wing, and then printing another page on lighter weight paper and cutting out the fillet as a separate part works, but the fillet may need to be enlarged about 10% or so.

The Duck is a booger! What I did was force things together, then reprinted every page on 20# bond paper, and then covered the poor fitting joints and fillets with the thinner pieces. When I finished patching mine up, it really looked great, but, darn it, I gave it away without taking any photos!

Covering up a mess with a bond paper part is a lot easier than starting over, and you will be amazed how well the technique works, and, if you are careful, how "invisible" the patch is!

Bob

Bear,

That's a great technique. I found that when it comes to some compound shapes, that cardstock have some give to it. You can use any item that has a smooth-rounded end, place the part in your hand or on a surface that has a little give and work it in to the compound shape. It doesn't gain alot on the part, but it does help a little. To bad there isn't an english wheel that small.

Try spoons. Tea spoons. iced tea spoons. table spoons. Works kinda like a dap block. If you're careful, you can baaaarreeellyy dampen the backside and get down on it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely be trying those techniques, I really want a Duck, that plane looks so cool!
