While I do live in one of those ICBM bulls eyes, I am in Houston, TX. with its obvious focus on energy, not an
administrative center for defense of the free world. Doing research on our three BuNos its been interesting to
observe how all SAC bases went from B-47's to B-52's, then within twenty four months...silos...ringing every
I made contact with Chip who somehow was not clear on how our r/c designs tie into card stock models. Its
only a matter of geometry...one man's card model is another's baseline CNC resource :^) B-47 documentation
took forever to gather a decent volume with which to reconcile with photographic verification. Of more than
a dozen artist renderings there were only two with engineering mark-ups. The reason for this is much simpler
to understand...by people from Nebraska.
Security issues "back-in-the-day" resulted in destruction of most usable documentation. Photographs of B-47s
in large format were "staged" for their global geopolitical value. How's that for an alternative to propaganda?
Mis-information was created as a deterrant. One of the most obvious is the day the 1000th B-47E rolled-out
of Boeing's Wichita, KS facility. It was announced another 1000 were following it. In reality, 1,700 more of
them rolled out.
At the height of the March Of Dimes Polio Campaign to collect $ to fight the disease, 52-609 was rolled out.
Employees attached banners, actual $100's, etc on the airframe and a huge public event occurred. In most
cases of such a fan fare...bands and all...one would expect many photographs to have been taken. Sorry,
I am afraid the one below is the "only one" taken there.
What I expected to find more of what appears below. I received a complete run down on "why not" from the
B-47 Stratojet Assn. vets relative to constrained information... PERIOD. Even Boeing's in-house resources
were constrained to two drawings. The balance of the technical data I retreived everything from declassified
T.O.'s, maintenance and piloting technical orders.
