Fiddlers Green

Being an FAI competitive flying scale modeler, I desire to acquire a higher dpi file set for the newly
released AVRO Lancaster. From a traditional standpoint this would present no great difficulty nor
downtime to achieve by the original artist who in all probability created the original design at a
greater dpi.

Why?

I desire to build a large format Lanc for competition utilizing this design as our 2D and 3D image
base. The UpKeep dam buster flight maneuver provides an opportunity to present a unique flight
plan as a "mission" for judges.

The project is anticipated to be a 160" wingspan electric powered Lanc.



The image below serves to illustrate what we create using 2D to render 3D with which to CNC
mill, CNC print, and hot wire high density Styrene.





We will provide proper original designer credit as well as Fiddler's Green for their contributions.

I think Derek Roberts actually designed it, but I know he works with/through Chip.

I don't believe Chip is aware these card stock models can be used as a baseline resource for giant scale modeling. Do you
have email address of Derek Roberts? Obviously I need to go directly to Derek instead of through the less than friendly Chip... ;^)
Simply do not understand Chip truncating my email to him... frustrating indeed!

Chip is a bit...eccentric. I suspect your use of loads of acronyms and terms he was unfamiliar with threw him off.

In many ways I think he is still stuck in the 60s. His itinerant lifestyle (he lives in a mobile home and is constantly on the move) points to someone who distrusts authorities and big business, and who at heart is still the "hippy" activist of this youth. I remember hearing that it was quite an emotional hurdle for him to release the B-52 bomber, due to the unhappy associations with the Vietnam War. Same goes for the armed version of the Huey, which was never officially released; instead the mini-guns are in the "versions" folder, but you would still have to convert the markings on the chopper yourself.

Sometimes I can get through to him via email and sometimes not. For instance, I sent him a repaint of the Bf-109 I did and said he could put it up on his site. He responded to that and a few days ago I saw that it was indeed available. But when I tried to download it, I found that the two pages of the model, even though they are labeled differently, are actually the same when opened- two pages of the wings and none of the fuselage! I sent him another email pointing out the problem, but I have not gotten any response back and the issue hasn't been fixed.

It would appear your summation is of high probability...

In my own way I am saying "been there and have the tee shirt". Many people on both sides of the induction notice carry
around excess personal baggage. Not to belabor historical hysterics, I'll suffice to say I attended a military academy in
the 60's.

Officers graduating from these institutions of "corraled youthful energy" were more-often-than-not pawns, if not outright
fodder, when enthusiasm placed them in circumstance beyond their youthful logic. How's that for politically correct... ;^)

I am appreciative of this web site and its resources contributing to my personal hobby experiences.

As for eclectic artistic skill sets and the use of CAD in my modeling...your summation is spot on considering the number of
CAD "artist-ists (note the extended "ists" I utilized per project due to the issue that each had a personal challenge to
achieve something within a portion of the subject image. When that challenge was achieved...each seemed to loose their
sense of enthusiasm and subsequently wandered off never to be heard from....again.

BTW, I just wanted to point out that my previous post was in no way meant as criticism of Chip. Fiddlers Green has been an inspiration to me. It was one of the first (if not The First) online papermodel website that offered downloadable models, and for that I will always be grateful, as it is what got me hooked on the cardstock modeling hobby. Chip my be a bit of a character but he has accomplished more than I ever could.

I am in no way being personal in any of my post. I was confused and disappointed
Chip somehow considered my inquiry a threat or offensive. Suppose it is something
to do with competitive flying scale modeling considered a less-than skill set. I agree
with you, his site premise is far superior to the typical card site.

Having known..and lived...with Chip, I can definitely say he's very distrustful of government and big business. Some of the stories he used to tell still curl my toes. Chip personifies the term "Hippie Artist".

FG was my inspiration into cardmodelling, from designing for him, to branching out on my own.
