Balloon Fiesta
10/06/2006.....Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque!!!!! Panoramagraph courtesy of Panoramagraphs.com

Thursday, October 12:Pullin' in the $$
20 miles east of Albuquerque, NM, the Beaver office blew a head gasket and we had to hobble to the next exit to break down the engine to install a new set of gaskets..

There we met a fine young lady named Lisa from Kentucky, who's present home address seems to be the stop sign.. Lisa generously let Annikins in on how to make some feeeenominal money while Aaron and I work on the engine.. Hey! we're having one of our best days ever!!

The sign Annie's holding was salvaged from a puddle on the edge of the Flagstaff parking lot in August and has been hanging on the office wall. "Break Glass for Emergency" . Note the seam across the middle. Flip the top forward and the sign (as a last ditch effort), says "WORK??" Annie's offering a square of her stuffed cabbage..

Next stop is lovely downtown Gallup. There's a LOT of empty parking lots there. We're slowly working our way back to Payson to pick up a couple months of mail and then to Tempe for election day.

Bees kissingBalloon Launch on Wednesday
10/07/2006: A couple more balloon photos that I just couldn't help not putting up on the page. Look at those baskets under the balloons showing the hugeness of the whole thing. In flight, they naturally swing out and in, kissing each time. They can, evidently, let the line out to separate the two balloons some 30 or 40 feet. Get a Room!!.

Balloonist's Prayer
(from the balloon museum):

The winds have welcomed you with softness
The sun has blessed you with his warm hands
You have flown so high and so free,
That God has joined you in laughter..
And set you gently again
into the arms of Mother earth

Verde RiverBridge over and under the Verde
What a nice way to enjoy the last of fall. This is Payson (elevation 5,500 ft) along the Verde River bright and early in the morning. We'll stay here about a week. The Cottonwoods along the river form a narrow band of color against the high-desert evergreens. Curiously, fall in the Phoenix area is still a couple months away-coming in about Christmas time if you're sharp enough to notice.
