The following was developed as a mental age
assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University. Take your time
and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake. The average
person over 40 years of age cannot do it!
1. This is this cat.
2. This is is cat.
3. This is how cat.
4. This is to cat.
5. This is keep cat.
6. This is an cat.
7. This is old cat.
8. This is fart cat.
9. This is busy cat.
10. This is for cat.
11. This is forty cat.
12. This is seconds cat.
Now go back and read the third word in each line
from the top down

I always liked this test of memory & mental agility:
1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator?
A. Open the door, put the giraffe in, close the door.
(This question assesses the tendency to over-complicate things).
2. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?
Incorrect answer: Open the door, put the elephant in, close the door.
Correct answer: Open the door, take out the giraffe, put the elephant in, close the door.
(This question gauges ability to recognize the consequences of former actions).
3. The Lion King has called a conference of all the animals. All the animals but one show up. Which one?
A. The Elephant. Did you forget already that you put him in the refrigerator and closed the door?
(This question measures memory of recent actions).
4. You have no boat, but must cross a river that crocodiles live in. How do you manage it?
A. Wade into the river and swim across. All the crocodiles are away at the animal conference.
(This question gauges ability to recall and recognize pertinent facts).
How'd you do? Children aged four do better than any other demographic on this test.
