Another model for the forum. Pretty quick build, nice and simple but different, John Dell's B-24 nose display.

That is a really nice looking and unique model. I didn't know the history of the plane (or even if it was a model of a real bomber), so I googled it and edgeuhmacated myself. Great idea for a model. There were so many bombers decorated with beautiful nose art. This would make a terrific kit series. I know there is at least one book out there dedicated to aircraft nose art. I almost bought it a few years back at B&N. Someone with a scanner and Photoshop skills could design some truly wonderful tribute models.

Speaking of John Dell Liberators, he's hard at work developing nose turreted beasts. He sent me this test section and his level of detail is incredible - right down to the discolored paint of former nose artwork still showing beneath the new artwork. Forgive some of the fit disjoinery - I cheated and built the test using flush joints while John's designed the sections with standard overlap tabs, and the few hundredths of an inch difference do show up. My contribution to the project is the cockpit canopy design.

So you've got more nosejobs in your future, Niki!

The new B-24 is finally, almost finished. I am now completing some adjustments to the bomb bay. The rest of the plane just needs some minor tweaks. I’ll be assembling another test fuselage this weekend. If everything is alright I’ll start a complete build. If all goes well I should have some photos within the next couple of weeks.

I’ve also been working on nose cones for the B-17. It took quite a bit of fiddling but I have come up with a nice, accurate and simple design for the B-17F (with gun mount) and B-17G. I’m still working on adapting it to match the B-17B thru E (flatter) nose design. I’ll be doing some more test builds of those this weekend too.

A Privateer? Yes, hopefully some day.
