General Dynamics and McDonnell Douglas used the name of an earlier Avenger for their proposed stealth replacement for the A-6 Intruder all-weather attack bomber. Appearing in 1906, Antoinette's 25-50 horsepower engines gave European aviation its start. Excellent as they were, these lightweight aero engines were subject to quitting if the tiniest bit of dirt or debris found its way into the fuel to clog their early fuel injection systems.

Arado Minifighter
A captured Arado document showed a miniature fighter, 18.4ft in span and 16.2 ft long, slung under the fuselage of an Ar 234C. The pilot is prone behind armor plate and plexiglass, and armament consists of 1 x MK 108 with 45 rounds. A Walter bi-fuel rocket is fitted in the tail. It was to make two high speed passes at the Allied bombers and then, if it still existed, look for someplace to land. MODEL NOT YET AVAILABLE.

ASW-20 Sailplane

Bell-P39-Airacobra
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was one of the principal American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II. Although its mid-engine placement was innovative, the P-39 design was handicapped by the lack of an efficient turbo-supercharger, limiting it to low-altitude work. The P-39 was used with great success by the Soviet Air Force. Includes SIX versions and a Panzer Tank model to clobber with the (recently UN-classified!) FG spit-ball cannon.

Bell-X1
The Bell X-1, originally designated XS-1, was a joint NACA-U.S. Army Air Forces/US Air Force supersonic research project and the first aircraft to exceed the speed of sound in controlled, level flight. On October 14, 1947, Test Pilot 'X" did exactly that. Bell-XFL-Airabonita
The Bell XFL Airabonita was a US experimental shipboard interceptor developed for the US Navy in 1939. It was similar to and a parallel development of the land-based P-39 Airacobra, differing mainly in the use of a tailwheel undercarriage in place of the P-39's tricycle gear. Bell-XP-77
Bell was the only US manufacturer to produce propeller-driven single-engined fighters with a tricycle landing gear during the war, notably the P-39 Airacobra and P-63 Kingcobra. In between these designs was the diminutive XP-77, which was an early configuration for the P-39 dusted off and redesigned to use non-strategic materials, mainly wood. Bellanca Citabria
In 1964 Bellanca introduced the acrobatic version of the Champ which they dubbed Citabria, which, no doubt you have heard, is "airbatic" spelled backwards. Fitted with either a 150 or 108 horse powered Lycoming, this machine was the first aircraft certified in the US for aerobatic flight.

Blackburn-12
Blackburn designed a new fuselage and used the wing and tail surfaces from the Blackburn Dart. The pilot sat in an open cockpit above the engine, a navigator sat inside the fuselage and a gun position was located at the rear of the fuselage cabin. Three prototypes were flown during 1922 leading to a production contract for 12 aircraft.

In Germany there's a hill named Wasserkuppe that most glider enthusiasts have heard about and it was there, just after WWI ended, the first glider meet was held. Most of the competitors brought hang gliders they were developing - most of those being somewhat less than workable.

Bleriot-XI
The Bleriot XI also had some ground-breaking technologies such as castering landing gear, allowing for crosswind landings. Wing warping (instead of ailerons) controlled the plane's roll. The tail section of the Bleriot XI included a horizontal stabilizer with an elevator, and a rudder, but no vertical stabilizer.

Blohm & Voss BV 141
One of aviation's true oddities the BV 141 performed surprisingly well, but never saw operational service.
Three prototypes of the BV 141 were made, before it went into limited production. Only a total of 23 were built.
The similar fuselage, but more conventional twin-engined layout of the Focke-Wulf Fw 189 won out in the end.

Boeing F4B
Serving the US Navy at the end of the biplane era, the classic F4B was the star of the family of famous Boeing fighters which included the US Army Air Corps' P-12 and the export Model 100. The F4B was a super ship to fly and was the most capable carrier-based fighter of its time. Boeing Model-299
In 1937, the twelve Y1B-17s with the 2nd Bombardment Group at Langley Field represented the entire American fleet of Heavy Bombers. Notably, it was built with NOT ONE cent of Army money and Boeing was in difficult circumstances at the time. This noble effort led the way to the legendary WWII B-17 Flying Fortress that arguably won the war crippling the Nazi war machine.

Bowers Fly Baby
Over 500 Fly Babies have been completed to date, with scores still flying worldwide and an active network of builders and owners. It is built from plans, and was designed to be able to be constructed in a garage using only basic tools by a person of average skill.

Caproni Campini N.1
In 1939 inventor Secondo Campini convinced the Caproni company to build an airframe to test his new power unit, which he believed would replace the propeller. The Italian aircraft industry had decided that a gas turbine engine was impractical (even as German and British scientists were testing theirs). Gas balloons were used in the American Civil War, the Napoleonic Wars (to very limited extent), and throughout the 19th century by hobbyists and show performers such as the Blanchards.

Christmas Bullet
Doctor William Christmas believed that struts were unnecessary and that an aeroplane's wings should be free to flap like a bird's. Unfortunately, on the first flight of his 'Bullet' fighter, also known as the Christmas Strutless Biplane and by other names, the wings did exactly that and then came adrift. Coanda 1910 Jet
One of the first things you'd notice about this slim biplane was its lack of propeller. Designed by 24-year-old Romanian Henri Coanda, the airplane made its official debut at the October 1910 Salon de l'Aeronautique in Paris, where it wowed the crowd. That's not only because the biplane had a complete wooden cover, and its struts and bracing wires were kept to a bare minimum, but also because its tractor-mounted engine drove a centrifugal compressor through a series of gears.

Colditz Escape Glider
The glider was assembled by Goldfinch and Best and 12 assistants known as "apostles", in the lower attic above the chapel. The runway was to be constructed from tables and the glider was to be launched using a pulley system based on a falling metal bathtub full of concrete, using a gravity-assisted acceleration to 30 mph (50 km/h).

Curtiss XP-55 Ascender
Resulting, like the Vultee XP-54 and Northrop XP-56, from a 1940 competition for 'unconventional' fighter designs, the XP-55 was built with a pusher prop, highly swept wings and a canard foreplane. The de Havilland DH.89 Dragon Rapide was a British short-haul passenger airliner of the 1930s. Designed by the de Havilland company in late 1933 as a faster and more comfortable successor to the DH.84 Dragon, it was in effect a twin-engined, scaled-down version of the four-engined DH.86 Express. Developed and manufactured by DeHavilland, the Comet first flew in 1949 and was a revolutionary in aeronautical design. This American torpedo bomber is remembered mostly for a tragic reason - the Douglas TBD Devastator fell in flames at Midway, where an entire squadron was lost in a matter of minutes. The Devastator was perfectly acceptable aircraft by prewar standards, but it came on the scene when change was occurring rapidly. Goodyear Inflatoplane
As well as their famous blimps, the Goodyear Company built military aircraft under licence, such as versions of the Vought Corsair. Of course, what they really wanted to do was build rubber aeroplanes and they got their chance in the 1950s. The US Army was particularly open to new ideas and sponsored development of the Inflatoplane (sometimes called the Inflatibird). The Gossamer Albatross aircraft was designed to fly long distances with a human as the only power source. On June 12, 1979, the Albatross, powered and guided by pilot Bryan Allen, made an historic flight across the English Channel. Lavochkin Lagg-3
The LaGG-3 was essentially the series production LaGG-1, but was still not right. Nicknamed the 'Mortician's Friend', pilots joked that LaGG stood for 'Lakirovannii Garantirovannii Grob' or 'varnished, guaranteed coffin'. The Me 210 was designed as a potential successor to the Bf 110, and RLM approval of the project in 1937 was followed on 5 September 1939 by the first flight of the twin-finned Me 210V1 prototype. Possibly the most capable of the first-generation all weather jet interceptors, the Northrop F-89 was created in response to a USAF proposal for a a successor to the P-61 Black Widow. Entering server in 1950, the clumsy-looking Scorpion actually outlasted its contemporaries, the F-86D Sabre and the F-94 Starfire, in service. Northrop Gamma
The most famous Gamma was the "Polar Star." The aircraft was carried via ship and offloaded onto the pack ice in the Ross Sea during Lincoln Ellsworth's 1934 expedition to Antarctica. Piper Tri-Pacer
The Pacer was essentially a four-place version of the two-place PA-17 Vagabond light aircraft. It features a steel tube fuselage and an aluminum frame wing, covered with fabric, much like Piper's most famous aircraft, the Cub and Super Cub.
