Empire State Building![]()
The Empire State Building was started in 1930 and finished in 1931 by the Starret Brothers and Eken Contracting firm known for their reputation of building quickly. They got their supplies from all over the world. Steel from Pittsburgh, limestone and granite from Indiana, and marble from England. The total cost of the Empire State Building was about 41 million dollars.

Foredown Tower![]()
Built in 1909 as a water tower it is now converted into a tourist center in Portslade, East Sussex, England. As you can see it looks quite well as a brick and slate industrial building.

Phone Box![]()
The first standard public telephone kiosk introduced by the United Kingdom Post Office was produced in concrete in 1920 and was designated K1 (Kiosk No.1). This design was not of the same family as the familiar red telephone boxes.

The California Gold Rush folk used the rocker box (or gold cradle) to extract gold nuggets and dust from gravel using the minimum of water. It was fairly portable which was an advantage as they often moved to new diggings. The quarter shows you how large the model is.

World Trade Center buildings![]()
The World Trade Center (WTC) was a complex in Lower Manhattan in New York City whose seven buildings were destroyed in 2001 in the September 11 terrorist attacks. The site is currently being rebuilt with six new skyscrapers and a memorial to the casualties of the attacks.
