Elizabethan Gatehouse

Gate House at Stokesay Castle

The gatehouse timbers are arranged in different ways on the ground, first floor and gables. The decoration on all sides is delightful and the carvings religious in suggestion over the entrance arc figures of Adam and Eve, the serpent and the forbidden fruit.

At each corner there are massive carved oaken corbels. Tradition says that the gatehouse was once the refuge of an outlawed forger and whereas Stokesay Castle has long been uninhabited, the gatehouse itself is now a small but pleasant home and gift shop.

I love this little model. It's clever and easy to build. One of the old school models that were printed on the offset press in England. If we ever start selling printed models again, this one will get reprinted again a a postcard. -Scott
