North of England Country Stone Cottage
Not so long ago, people would just start picking up stones from the field and build their house. The houses were so hard to keep warm, that two fireplaces were usually needed. (see floor plan). The kitchen was on the right of the plan.
Notice how the largest stones are placed closer to the ground in the wall and that the largest pieces of slate are at the lower edge of the roof.
This model was one of the early printed Fiddlersgreen postcards. The originals have become collector's items.
